When I started designing stuff over five years ago, I didn't realize it would turn into an actual career path. It seemed too good to be true. I got to use my right brain AND my left brain at the SAME TIME? And create stuff? And get paid to do it? Seriously...don't they put people in jail for having this much fun?

So really, I got started in design because I thought I was pulling one over on the man by being able to make cool stuff and get paid for it.

Over time, though, I acquired some pretty neat things. Like an aesthetic. And programming skills. And I'm pretty dangerous with a pen tool. (Okay, I'm geeking out now.)

I've also realized that one of the responsibilities of a designer is to find ways to minimize the environmental impact of designing "things." Things like brochures that are printed on paper, which is energy- and water-intensive to make. Things like websites that live on large server farms that require lots of energy to run. So probably the most important thing I acquired on this design ride was an extensive knowledge of how to design in an earth-friendly way.

Any project I take on is executed in the most sustainable fashion possible. This means things like using paper with at least a 30% post-consumer waste content (although I prefer 100% PCW) from mills powered by renewable energy. It also means making sure the printer uses soy-based inks, and minimizing travel (and therefore gas usage) by interacting electronically as much as possible.

Occasionally, it may end up costing a little bit more, but a lot of the time, it's cost neutral. But really, it's just the right thing to do, and it's what you buy into when you buy into me as your designer.

So now that you know a little bit more about me, you might want learn a little bit more about my work. Chose a category below to get started.
